Tea time

As the daughter of missionaries, I grew up in two countries that once had been British colonies - just as the United States was so many years ago! In Bangladesh and Kenya, teatime remains a delightful tradition. Both men and women enjoy their hearty teas, and no child’s afternoon would be complete without a cup of steaming tea laced with milk and sugar.

My husband and I try to take tea together every day. We play soft music and sit beside the fire to talk over the day’s events. I cannot think of anything that has enhanced our 26-year marriage more! Please give teatime a place in your life with your family and friends.

Types of tea
Black teas

Dark brown, black or reddish in color. Full-bodied flavor. Assam (malty), Ceylon (strong), Darjeeling (the champagne of tea), Keemun (orchid like aroma), Lapsang souchong (smoky).

Green teas

Pale in color with subtle bitter taste. Dragon well (toasty), Gunpowder (pungent).

Oolong teas

Not as bitter as green, or as full-bodied as black. Black dragon (fruity), Formosa oolong (peachy).

Flavored teas

Blend of tealeaves and natural flavors. Earl Grey (oil of bergamot), Jasmine (fragrant).

Herbal Teas

Include every part of the plant. Flowers (chamomile, lavender), Leaf (dandelion, peppermint, strawberry), Root (ginseng, licorice, sassafras).
